ASM staff member Kimberly Walker attended the G2 Intelligence 2011 Lab Institute on 19-21 October.
Many of the sessions focused on proposed changes to Medicare billing, laboratory strategies in the era of Accountable Care Organization (ACO), the latest information in laboratory and pathology coding, and personal genomics. Concurrent breakout sessions allowed attendees to focus on specific areas; for example, 20 October offered a number of Coding and Reimbursement focused interactive meetings, while 21 October sessions focused on market forces and personal genomics. Speakers included Alberto Gutierrez, Director of the Office of In Vitro Diagnostic Device Evaluation and Safety in the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health; Alan Mertz, President of the American Clinical Laboratory Association; and Susan Dentzer, editor-in-chief of Health Affairs, the peer-reviewed health policy journal.
