Department of Microbiology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Provide technical support with genome assembly on a DOE-funded project. Qualifications: B.A. degree in Computational Biology or related field required. A Master's degree in Bioinformatics or experience with genomics preferred. Experience in bioinformatics, computational skills, and basic programming is required. Experience with genome assembly software and genome assembly tools is preferred. Responsibilities: Complete genome assembly of 40-100 Methanosarcina genomes. Process primary DNA sequence data, genome assembly using assembly pipeline, gap closure using bioinformatics and PCR, and annotation of assembled genomes. Ensure the accuracy of assembled genome data. Development of computer scripts needed to transform and process data will be required. Oversee the ordering and maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, supervise and train undergraduate and graduate students in database management and the use of computational tools and bioinformatics, and assist with grant proposal preparation and publication of research results. Salary: Commensurate with experience. Appointment Status: 100% visiting position. The position is initially for one year and is renewable (as visiting or regular) contingent on strong performance review and continued funding.
