The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), Division of Microbiology, Surveillance/Diagnostic Program is seeking a senior microbiologist to provide microbiological support in the areas of bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology, with the responsibility for monitoring the microbiological condition of the various animal colonies and facilities at NCTR. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and implementing new or modified test procedures, including molecular biology techniques, for the isolation and identification of microorganisms from specimens. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining the overall efficiency, material stocks, and media levels of the laboratory and performing administrative duties such as verification of data and reports, preparation of survey summary, quarterly and final reports for ongoing GLP, NTP, and other short- and long-term NCTR studies. This position requires supervisory and clinical microbiology experience. Additionally the incumbent must possess a mastery of microbiology theories, principles, and methods in order to provide team leadership within the Program and to provide technical guidance and counsel to NCTR Managers, NCTR Veterinarians and Principal Investigators on technical situations involving bacteriology, virology, parasitology, and mycology.  Salary range: $65,315-100,976 annually, commensurate with experience.  The candidate must be a U.S. citizen.  Benefits include health and life insurance options, retirement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
