On 8 June, Vickie Baselski represented ASM at the Coordinating Council for the Clinical Laboratory Workforce (CCCLW)Meeting in Chicago, Ill. The CCCLW is a coalition of organizations interested in working together to ensure a high-quality clinical laboratory workforce.
There was a review of the CCCLW's strategic plan and in particular, the CCCLW's priorities and goals and how best to achieve them. Specifically, coalition members discussed how CCCLW efforts could help to increase and/or retain an adequate number of qualified practitioners for the laboratory workforce. The coalition also discussed how to increase health care and public awareness of the laboratorian's role in achieving positive patient outcomes. Additionally, CCCLW members reviewed content for the newly created CCCLW website to be sure that information was accurate and practical for users.
