ASM Letter on WMD Prevention and Preparedness Act of 2010 Print E-mail

 ASM sent a letter on 12 July to the chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Representative Bennie Thompson, and other members of the Committee, providing comments and analysis of the House version of the WMD Prevention and Preparedness Act of 2010 (HR 5498).

 
ASM Alert on Executive Order on Select Agents Print E-mail

 

 The ASM alerted members on 7 July to President Obama's 2 July Executive Order which directs federal agencies to institute changes in the current implementation of the Select Agent Program (SAP) and Regulations (SAR) within their existing statutory authorities.

 
ASM President Bonnie Bassler Speaks at Bioethical Commission Meeting Print E-mail

ASM President Bonnie Bassler was invited to speak at the 8 July meeting of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, which considered the topic of synthetic biology.

 
ASM Antibiotic Resistance Activities Print E-mail
On 28 June, Gail Cassell, chair of the ASM Public and Scientific Affairs Board Committee on Biomedical Research, and Janet Shoemaker, ASM staff, were invited to meet with staff from the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, to discuss issues related to antibiotic resistance and the current status and incentives for the antibiotic product pipeline.

On 14 June, Vickie Baselski, chair of the PSAB Committee on Professional Affairs, represented ASM at the Coordinating Committee for the Clinical Laboratory Workforce (CCCLW) meeting.
 
ASM Comments on CDC Revised Draft Guidelines for Group B Strep Print E-mail
The ASM Public and Scientific Affairs Board (PSAB) Committees on Laboratory Practice and Professional Affairs reviewed and submitted comments on the laboratory portion of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) draft revised guidelines for the Prevention of Perinatal Group B Strep (GBS) Infection.
